Stockton residents are beginning to see their town as the next major flood area. They realize that New Orleans had very extensive damage due to the
levees that brokeafter Katrina hit. The
levees that hold back the high waters of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, have a somewhat high chance of
breaking again, and causing flooding in small neighborhoods around Stockton. One major problem for these cities is that they are many feet below the water that is being held back by the levees. Another problem the
flat farming lands in these cities that would easily flood. Hopefully, allowing the community to see that there is a problem here, the town can
prepare for when something does happen again.
Really, I don’t think this has a huge affect if we are not going to do anything about it. One thing that we did could have done about the levees in New Orleans might have been to give people information about the attempts that were made to try to prevent the levees form breaking. By doing that some people could have prepared. But then again you have people who do not take any advice, because they assume that they know what is really going to happen.
