The second crusade was brought up by Pope Eugene III in 1144 and led by Louis VII and Conrad III.

This crusade was to be led to solve problems inside the County of Edessa. The County of Edessa had been established during the first crusade. It was one of the counties that had been developed as a result of the crusade. This crusade was to be led by European kings, it would be a crusade of strength as opposed to one of major establishment.

During this crusade, the Christian crusaders failed and were ultimately defeated by the Muslims.
